Antiques in The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds has the largest concentration of serious arts and antique dealers in the UK outside of London. Fine art, classic furniture ranging from the 17th century onwards, antiquarian books, rugs, metal works, jewelry, fireplaces and garden decorations are just a small sample of what can be found.  Although there are many dealers throughout the area, there is a concentration in Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway.  This is a brief guide to the very best of them...

Description
Established in 1971, Haynes Fine Art, a family run business, quickly became the largest fine art dealers outside of London. The galleries have built up a strong reputation for selecting major pieces by British artists, such as: John Atkinson Grimshaw; Arthur John Elsley; Joseph Farquharson; Heywood Hardy; David Shepherd; Sidney Richard Percy; and Alfred de Breanski Snr, to name but a few. More over, Continental names such as: Frederick Marius Kruseman; Frederico Andreotti; Alexej Harlamoff and Francois Brunery are extremely well represented.

The wide range of paintings, which are all beautifully displayed throughout the twelve showrooms at Picton House, are complemented by fine furniture with tables, chairs, davenports and desks etc, shown in potential room settings.

Description
John Noott Galleries have been established in Broadway since 1976, most recently in the lovely old building which was for many years the home of the Gordon Russell Furniture Company.

Whether period or contemporary, the paintings stocked are essentially traditional in appeal, either by noted British and European artists of the seventeenth to twentieth centuries, or by artists of repute working today – do not expect to be assailed by abstraction!

Sculpture is a feature, also traditional in form, either figurative or animalier, and a recent addition to the stock carried, in view of the gallery’s location, is a small selection of early Gordon Russell furniture.

Exhibitions are held regularly, usually five or six times each year, and interested parties are welcome to add their names to the mailing list, using the usual contact details.
